Clevis

Our company

We're making payroll a single API call across Latin America.

Clevis is payroll infrastructure for platforms. We let products calculate compliant payroll and pay employees through one API — across Mexico, Colombia, Brazil, Peru, Argentina and Chile.

Why we exist

Every platform rebuilds the same payroll work.

Across Latin America, payroll is fragmented by country: different tax authorities, contribution schemes, social security systems and reporting formats — each with its own rules and its own pace of change. Any platform that wants to calculate or pay payroll ends up building and maintaining all of that itself.

That work is expensive, slow, and never finished. It's also a distraction. The teams building vertical SaaS, neobanks, gig platforms and HR-tech should be shipping their product — not becoming part-time payroll compliance experts in six countries.

Clevis exists to remove that work entirely. One API to calculate payroll correctly and pay the people behind it — so payroll becomes a feature you turn on, not a system you build.

What we believe

The principles behind the product.

Payroll is infrastructure

Calculating and paying payroll correctly is plumbing every platform needs but none should have to build. We treat it like infrastructure: an API, versioned, documented, and boringly reliable.

Every number is traceable

Payroll is money and the law. Each calculation ships with an itemized, versioned audit trail — every formula, every contribution, every withholding — so you can always answer how a number was reached.

Compliance is a moving target

Tax tables, contribution rates and local rules change constantly across six countries. We absorb that complexity behind versioned rule sets so your product stays correct without you tracking every reform.

Built by people who've shipped payroll at scale.

Melvin Zaldaña
Founder & CEO
After building payroll engines and infrastructure twice — at RunaHR and adjacent at dLocal — I kept seeing the same gap: every technological platform that needs payroll ends up rebuilding the same compliance work. Clevis is the API I wish I'd had.
RunaHR
Built the core payroll calculation engine that processed payroll for thousands of Mexican companies.
dLocal
Payments infrastructure for Latin America. 3+ years operating regulated fintech APIs across the region.
